How to list for standby on Austrian Airlines
Listing is required for every Austrian Airlines flight, and it is done in myIDTravel: https://www.myidtravel.com/myidlisting/
Flights you can't use
- Trains sold under an Austrian Airlines (OS) flight number.
- All Austrian Airlines charter flights and codeshare services.
Visas and travel documents
Getting the right passport, visas and vaccination certificates is your job, and you should check they are valid before you set off. Austrian Airlines takes no responsibility for missing or invalid documents, and if the airline is fined because of them, the fine is passed on to you.
Baggage
You get the same allowance as a full-fare passenger, but your bags travel only if there is space and the flight's weight limits allow it. Excess baggage is charged at the normal full-fare rates and must be paid in full (see www.austrian.com).
Checked baggage:
- Economy: 1 piece, 23 kg.
- Premium Economy: 2 pieces, 23 kg each.
- Business: 2 pieces, 32 kg each.
Cabin baggage, each piece up to 55 × 40 × 20 cm and 8 kg:
- Economy: 1 piece.
- Premium Economy: 1 piece.
- Business: 2 pieces.
If your flight is full, you are encouraged to check your cabin bag in for free at check-in or at the gate.
Check-in
Web check-in is the main option. It opens 47 hours before departure.
Check-in deadlines are on the check-in times page of the Austrian Airlines website. If no deadline is given, be checked in at least 60 minutes before departure.
Through check-in to your connection works for confirmed ZED and MIBA tickets. On standby it is sometimes not possible, so leave enough time at every stop to land and check in again.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
Standby passengers are accepted in priority groups:
- OS12–OS14: Austrian Airlines staff and their dependants.
- OS15: Star Alliance staff.
- OS16: staff of other airlines.
Within your group, your check-in time decides your place.
- You can't reserve a seat on a staff ticket. Once you have been accepted, you can change your seat during online check-in.
- Austrian Airlines upgrades paying passengers to make room for standby passengers.
Special services, children and pets
- Standby passengers can't get special services.
- On confirmed tickets, services such as a wheelchair or a pet in the cabin (PETC) must be requested in the booking and confirmed by Austrian Airlines.
- Special meals aren't available.
- Unaccompanied minors aren't accepted.
- Children under 16 can travel on a discounted staff ticket only with an adult on the same type of ticket.
Dress code
Dress as you would for the office, or smart casual. Jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, gym shoes and other very casual clothes aren't acceptable. Behave so that paying passengers aren't disturbed and the crew can focus on them. If you don't follow these rules, you can be refused travel.
Changes and refunds
You can switch from one Austrian-operated flight to another as long as the origin and destination stay the same. If you want to switch to another airline or take a different routing, have your back-up tickets ready.
