Getting started

Who is Staff Airlines for?

Pilots, flight attendants, ground staff and other airline employees with staff travel benefits, retired staff who keep them, and family members who travel on those benefits.

What do non-rev, standby, ZED and interline mean?

Non-rev is travel on free or discounted staff tickets. You usually fly standby: you get a seat only if one is left once paying passengers have boarded. ZED and interline agreements let airline staff fly other airlines at staff fares. Which airlines you can fly depends on your employer’s agreements.

Is Staff Airlines free?

Yes. The Free plan covers every route and every airline for today, through 3 AM tomorrow. Premium adds any date, load updates on flights you follow, airport schedules, Transfer route finder, the partner airlines filter and tokens for agent requests.

What’s the difference between Free and Premium?

Free: every route and every airline, with loads for today, through 3 AM tomorrow. You can ask agents on Free too, with tokens you buy. Premium: any travel date, load updates on flights you follow, airport schedules, Transfer route finder, the partner airlines filter and tokens for agent requests included.

Can I check loads for future dates?

Future dates are a Premium feature. On the Free plan you can check today’s flights, through 3 AM tomorrow.

Can I search by city instead of a single airport?

Yes. Use a city code, for example NYC, LON or PAR, to search across all airports in that city. It’s most useful where a city has more than one.

There’s no airport where I’m heading. Can the app still help?

Yes. If the place you search has no airport of its own, the app offers flights to the nearest one.

Can I buy staff tickets in Staff Airlines?

No. Staff Airlines doesn’t sell tickets, including staff (ID) tickets. Your own airline issues them, usually through its staff travel portal or myIDTravel. The app helps you check your chances of getting a seat before you list.

Standby basics

How do I check flight loads before I list?

In your booking tool, such as myIDTravel, if your airline shows loads there; in the airline’s own app or standby list; or in Staff Airlines, which shows estimated open seats on 500+ airlines and lets you ask an agent to check a flight. Compare several flights and check again closer to departure. More: How to check flight loads.

What is a standby list?

The queue of standby travellers for a flight, in priority order: by check-in time on some airlines, by airline and date of joining on others. Many airlines show it on screens at the gate or in their app. More: How the standby list works.

What is myIDTravel?

A platform many airlines use for staff travel: you book ID tickets in it and, on many airlines, list for standby. It is run by Lufthansa Industry Solutions. More: myIDTravel guide.

Can crew ride the jumpseat?

It depends on agreements between airlines. In the US, pilots are verified through CASS before a flight deck jumpseat ride; some airlines also accept flight attendants and dispatchers, others only pilots. More: Jumpseat and commuting.

Can I fly standby over the holidays?

Usually yes, but it is harder: flights are fuller and some airlines embargo peak dates, such as ANA on Japan domestic flights from December 23 to January 10. Check embargoes first and keep a backup flight. More: Flying standby over the holidays.

Loads & flights

How accurate are the flight loads?

Loads are estimates, not official airline data. When an agent has recently checked a flight, you see their numbers.

How long does an agent’s answer stay current?

An answer counts as fresh for one hour, or three hours if the flight departs more than a day from now. While it’s fresh, the app shows the agent’s numbers directly. After that it stays visible, marked with how long ago it came in, and it caps the estimate, so the app never shows more seats than the agent actually saw.

A flight shows almost no seats. Is it worth going?

Your chances are low but not zero, and they depend on how many of you are travelling. No-shows and last-minute cancellations often free up a seat or two, so going solo is worth a try. With family, pick a flight with more open seats.

Why is a flight or airline showing no data?

Agent coverage varies by airline, and some carriers are not connected to our data sources. If an airline is unavailable, its loads can’t be shown.

What is Transfer route finder?

It finds connecting routes when a direct won’t work: there are no directs on your route, they’re full, or you’ve been bumped and are stuck at an airport. You get alternatives with loads on both legs, so you don’t spend the night in a terminal.

What’s in airport schedules?

Departures and arrivals at airports worldwide: flight status, gate, delays and cancellations, baggage belt and more. Airport schedules are part of Premium.

What is My Flights for?

My Flights is where you keep the flights you care about. Add a flight, ask an agent about it, or follow it for regular updates. Flights you follow or asked an agent about appear there automatically, with a badge showing which is active.

What does following a flight do?

You get push updates on that flight at regular intervals, right up to departure or until you stop following it. Updates arrive on a schedule rather than on every change, so there can be a short delay between something moving on the flight and the notification reaching you. Following flights is part of Premium.

Transfer route finder doesn’t show a connection I know exists.

Email [email protected] with the route (both airports) and the connection airport you expected. We’ll check it and, if needed, add the transfer.

Partner airlines filter

What is the partner airlines filter?

It narrows your results to airlines your employer has ZED and interline staff travel agreements with. Switch it on to see only flights you’re eligible for, switch it off to see everything. It’s included with Premium.

It says the list is unavailable for my airline. Is something blocking my search?

No, nothing is blocked. Without a list the filter can’t be switched on, so no filtering is applied and your results already include every airline flying your route.

A flight I’m entitled to doesn’t show when the filter is on.

The filter matches the airline actually operating the flight, not the airline selling it, so wet-leased flights can be filtered out even when your agreement covers the marketing airline. Send us the flight number and we’ll add the operator to your list.

How do I get the list added for my airline?

Send the full list to [email protected]: every airline you can fly with, not just your alliance partners. Airlines don’t publish their staff travel agreements, so employees are the only source. The list is usually in your staff travel system: myIDTravel, ID90 or your company’s portal. A file or text works best.

Can I customise the list just for me?

No. The list reflects one airline’s agreements and is shared by everyone who works there, so a partial list would cut results for your colleagues too. To see everything, switch the filter off.

Isn’t the list just my alliance partners?

No. Alliance membership and staff travel agreements are different things, and most airlines have agreements well beyond their alliance.

I sent a list. Do I need to update the app?

No. Lists are applied on our side. To pick up a new or changed list on iPhone, close the app completely and open it again; on Android, select your airline again in your profile.

Agents & tokens

What is an agent?

Someone with access to an airline’s systems, for example airline staff or check-in agents. Agents are verified, answer load requests from other staff travellers and earn tokens for it.

How does a load request work?

You spend one token and an agent can pick up your request. They have 10 minutes to respond; if nobody does, it goes back to the queue. You get a push when an agent answers, declines or doesn’t pick it up. If nobody responds, your token comes back.

Do I need Premium to ask an agent?

No. On Free you can ask agents with tokens you buy in packs of 10 or 20. Premium includes tokens with every plan.

What happens if no agent answers?

Your token comes back. Agent coverage varies by airline, so on some flights nobody may pick up the request.

Who can see an agent’s answer?

The cabin-by-cabin breakdown goes to the person who asked. The standby list is shown to all Premium users on that flight, so one request helps everyone travelling on it.

What are tokens?

Tokens are the in-app currency for agent requests: one token, one request. If no agent responds, your token is refunded.

How many tokens come with Premium?

The yearly plan includes 300 tokens, the monthly plan 20 and the weekly plan 3. The weekly plan is available on Android. During the free trial of the yearly plan you get 3 tokens; the full 300 arrive when the paid year starts. If you run out, you can buy packs of 10 or 20 in the app.

Can I swap tokens for Premium?

Yes, when you don’t have active Premium: 5 tokens give you 3 days of Premium, 10 a week and 20 a month. Swapping uses tokens you bought or earned. On Android, swapping is currently available to agents only.

How do I become an agent?

Open the Requests tab, tap Join now, sign in with Apple or Google, enter a nickname and your work email, then tap Sign up. No work email? Choose Other, use a personal email and add proof that you can see flight loads: a staff ID card, a ZED card, or a screenshot from myIDTravel or your airline’s staff travel system with your name visible. Agents are identified by nickname.

I already have Premium. Should I become an agent?

You can, but it’s optional. Premium already includes tokens for agent requests.

How do I leave the agent program?

Go to Profile, tap the three-dot menu and choose Leave agents program. Leaving doesn’t affect your Premium.

An agent’s answer looks wrong. What can I do?

Email [email protected] with the flight number, the date and your Support ID. We’ll check that agent’s answers, and if the answer turns out to be wrong, we’ll return your token.

Subscription & billing

How do I get a refund?

Email us first at [email protected]. On iPhone, Apple processes the refund: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, find Staff Airlines in your purchases and choose the refund option. On Android, request it at Google Play Help. If Google declines, we can often refund you ourselves.

Can I pause my subscription?

On Google Play you can pause for up to 3 months; after that, billing resumes automatically.

Should I cancel if I’m not using it this month?

Prices go up from time to time. If you cancel, you may lose your current price and pay more when you come back.

Can I share Premium with my family?

Yes, on iPhone. All plans and in-app purchases support Apple Family Sharing: turn it on in your iPhone settings and your family group can use the subscription. This applies to the App Store version only.

Can I use one account on both iPhone and Android?

One account can’t be used on iOS and Android at the same time.

Account & app

How do I sign in?

With Apple or Google only. There’s no separate email and password.

My tokens or Premium disappeared after an update.

Check which account you’re signed in with. A different Apple ID or Google account opens a different profile with its own balance.

The app won’t open or keeps crashing.

Make sure you have the latest version and iOS 15 or later. If it still won’t open, email [email protected] and describe what happens when you launch it.

What is a Support ID and where do I find it?

It helps us find your account quickly. You’ll find it in the app under Profile settings. Please send it to us as text, not a screenshot. If you’re an agent, you’ll see your nickname there instead: send us that.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Profile → Delete profile. Without the app, send a request on our delete account page. We delete it within 30 days and confirm by email. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel Premium, so cancel it in your app store first. Your tokens can’t be restored, and we keep only records we’re required to keep by law, such as purchase records.

I got a new phone or changed my email. Will I lose Premium?

No. Your purchase belongs to the Apple ID or Google account you bought it with, not to the phone or your email. On the new phone, sign in with the same Apple or Google account and Premium will be there. There’s no email to update on our side.

Nothing found. Try another word or email [email protected].

Still have a question?

We answer every email, usually within a day. Add your Support ID so we can find your account.
