Brussels Airlines staff travel & standby
If you buy your Brussels Airlines ticket in myIDTravel, you are listed automatically; other tickets are listed by email, ideally at least 24 hours before the flight. Only flights numbered below SN4000 can be used, and the ticket must be in the right booking class (RBD). Staff Airlines shows estimated open seats on Brussels Airlines flights before you go.
Rules for staff travel

How to list for standby on Brussels Airlines
Listing is recommended no later than 24 hours before the flight.
- Ticket bought in myIDTravel: the system lists you when the ticket is issued.
- Ticket bought and issued outside myIDTravel: email [email protected] with your e-ticket number. The Staff Travel Office has limited opening hours and is closed on Saturday and Sunday, so send your request well before you travel.
- If you aren't listed, you won't be refused, but have at least your ticket number ready to speed up check-in.
Book ID tickets in the right booking class (RBD): I for Business, R for Premium Economy, X for Economy. A ticket in the wrong RBD can't be listed correctly and may lead to refusal.
Flights you can't use
All flights numbered below SN4000 are covered by the ID agreements, whoever operates them.
- Flights numbered above SN4000 are codeshares not operated by b.air and can't be used on ID tickets.
- Bus, train and charter services are excluded.
- There are currently no embargoes. If you book in myIDTravel, any embargo is shown there and blocks the ticket from being issued.
Visas and travel documents
- Since 1 January 2018 every passenger must show a valid ID document or passport before boarding, including on flights within the Schengen area.
- Border control at Brussels Airport can take longer than expected; allow for it if you connect there.
- You must meet the entry rules of your final destination (passport, visa, vaccination, currency and so on).
- On a flight with stops, you may have to give your seat to a paying passenger and get off at the stopover. Carry valid documents so that entry permits (visa, vaccination) can be issued at the last minute. You pay for them, unless you hold a confirmed ID ticket.
- If you or one of your beneficiaries (children, buddy travellers and so on) don't meet entry rules, any fine Brussels Airlines receives is charged back to the employee.
- Your PNR and passport (API) data may be sent to the authorities at departure and arrival.
Baggage
- Economy: 1 checked piece, max. 23 kg
- Business: 2 checked pieces, max. 32 kg each
- In every case, 1 free hand bag, max. 8 kg
Check-in
As a rule, check in no later than 60 minutes before departure. For flights to and from Africa, including Tel Aviv, the deadline is different and can be up to 120 minutes before departure.
You can check in online at www.brusselsairlines.com. If the load allows, you get a seat straight away. If not, you get a stand-by boarding pass so you can go through security, and a seat, if there is one, is given at the gate shortly before boarding.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
As a courtesy to the crew, it's recommended that you introduce yourself when you board.
Special services, children and pets
Wheelchair (WCHR): available on both standby and confirmed ID tickets. Email [email protected] with your PNR and the type of wheelchair you need. If medical assistance is involved, the medical department must approve it.
Other special service requests (SSRs): only on confirmed bookings, never on standby.
- Finish your booking and ticketing first.
- Email a copy to [email protected] together with your request.
- Some SSRs cost money; include payment where needed.
Unaccompanied minors (UMNR): only on confirmed tickets, not on standby, with the same rules and procedures as for paying passengers. On Brussels Airlines a UMNR is a child older than 5 and younger than 12 travelling without anyone over 12. Add the correct SSR to the PNR. The service charge is on www.brusselsairlines.com under practical info > travelling with children > unaccompanied minors.
Pets in the cabin:
- Animals in the cabin are subject to government rules on the import, export and transit of live animals.
- Only small domestic animals such as cats and dogs are carried. Birds, fish and rodents (guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits and so on) aren't allowed in the cabin.
- No pets in the cabin on flights to the UK, or to or from Kenya.
- Bring all required documents: export, import or transit permits, health or vaccination certificates, animal ID.
- The animal must be clean, healthy, harmless and odourless, and must not be pregnant.
- Keep it in a soft-sided, leak-proof and smell-proof bag, fully inside (head and tail included) for the whole flight. The bag goes under the seat, not on it.
- The animal and its bag together can weigh no more than 8 kg.
Dress code
Look well-groomed, neat, clean and in good taste, and dress in a way that respects paying passengers. If you plan to fly in Business Class, formal business attire is required.
Changes and refunds
Refunds are processed automatically and immediately in myIDTravel.
If you were downgraded, request the fare difference back in myIDTravel. Your PNR must no longer be active, and the downgrade must be to a lower class, not just a different product. A jumpseat counts as Economy, but a downgrade refund from Business to a jumpseat isn't automated.
