How to list for standby on KM Malta Airlines
Unless your agreement says otherwise, list or book in myIDTravel: https://www.myidtravel.com
- Standby (leisure listing): no earlier than 90 days before departure.
- Confirmed (leisure booking): no earlier than 45 days before departure.
You may hold only one ticket per person per flight. Holding a confirmed ticket and turning up on a standby one counts as abuse and is reported to your airline.
Flights you can't use
Only flights operated by KM Malta Airlines (or sub-leased) are allowed: flight numbers KM0100–KM1999 and KM3000–KM3999. You can't use:
- Flights not operated by KM Malta Airlines, including codeshares (usually KM2000–KM2999).
- Charters and other special flights (KM4000–KM9999).
Specific embargoes may apply; they are listed in myIDTravel.
Visas and travel documents
Check the immigration rules for your destination before you leave. KM Malta Airlines isn't responsible for missing documents or what happens to your trip because of them.
Baggage
The same allowance applies to confirmed and standby travel:
- Economy: 1 piece of 23 kg.
- Business: 1 piece of 32 kg.
The A320 aircraft have little cabin space. Only laptop bags, handbags and baby bags are guaranteed on board; other hand baggage is restricted, and you can check it in free as part of your allowance. Hand baggage must not exceed 10 kg. The airline decides whether a cabin bag is accepted on board.
Check-in
- Standby: check in at a KM Malta Airlines counter at least 90 minutes before departure. Through check-in isn't allowed.
- Confirmed: you can check in online at https://kmmaltairlines.com/en from 24 hours to 90 minutes before departure. Through check-in (including bags) works only on a single ticket: not on separate tickets, even if confirmed.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
There's no special boarding procedure for staff. Passengers board Priority first, then non-Priority. If your boarding pass has a Business class seat, use the Priority lane; otherwise use the non-Priority lane.
Paying customers are always handled first, and you may be asked to wait before boarding: do as you're asked.
There are no upgrades unless stated otherwise. Upgrades are given at the gate, depending on availability and boarding priority.
Special services, children and pets
Staff travel generally doesn't include extra services such as lounge access, special meals, unaccompanied minors or pets in the cabin.
Economy has no free meals, only items to buy on board. Business class includes a free meal, but on standby it isn't guaranteed, especially on flights into Malta, as meals are loaded only in Malta.
Dress code
Wear clean, neat clothes in good taste.
- Acceptable: shirts with sleeves and collars, T-shirts, walking shorts, nice jeans, dress slacks, skirts, dresses, jogging suits, dress shoes, open-toe shoes and nice sneakers.
- Not acceptable: torn, ragged, slashed, dirty, frayed, low-cut, skimpy or revealing clothes; offensive or sexual slogans; halter, tube or midriff tops; sweats of any kind; leggings; beach or swimwear; visible body piercings or tattoos (cover them); dirty, stained or worn-out shoes.
Anyone who appears drunk or under the influence of drugs is refused travel. The rules apply to employees and their dependents, and it's the employee's job to remind them.
Changes and refunds
- Tickets booked in myIDTravel must be cancelled and refunded in myIDTravel: no other refund is accepted. The money goes back to the card you paid with, which can take 5–7 days.
- For tickets bought outside myIDTravel, email a refund request to [email protected].
- Cancel confirmed tickets at least 72 hours before departure. Later cancellations aren't refunded.
- If you were downgraded, send all relevant documents, including a copy of your boarding pass, to [email protected].
- Hold a backup ticket in case you can't be accepted.
