Scandinavian Airlines staff travel & standby
SAS staff travel goes through myIDTravel; for details, contact your own airline's Staff Travel Unit. Only flights operated by SAS or its designated wet-lease provider are covered, and Advance Passenger Information must be in place before check-in. Staff Airlines shows estimated open seats on Scandinavian Airlines flights before you go.

How to list for standby on Scandinavian Airlines
SAS has committed to ZED travel through myIDTravel. For information, contact your own airline's Staff Travel Unit.
- Check the SK information under ID Agreements in myIDTravel first. If you still have questions or need help, contact the SAS ID Helpdesk at [email protected].
- Staff Travel Units of other airlines get technical support for SAS in myIDTravel at [email protected].
Flights you can't use
There are no embargoes on SAS Group flights. ZED and MIBA agreements don't cover flights that aren't operated by SK or by a wet-lease provider SK has designated.
Visas and travel documents
On international trips you need a valid passport and the right visas for your destination, and also for the scheduled stops on the way, in case you have to be off-loaded there.
- Some countries require Advance Passenger Information (API), and SAS needs it before check-in.
- For flights to or from the USA, add your Secure Flight information at the moment you list or book.
- API and ESTA also apply to the USA. They can be added after listing, but 72 hours before departure is recommended.
If these requirements aren't met, your listing or booking will be cancelled.
Baggage
Your allowance is shown on your ticket and/or under ID Agreements in myIDTravel.
Check-in
At airports with self-service check-in kiosks:
- Go to a kiosk at least 60 minutes before departure, or 120 minutes before an intercontinental flight.
- Read the screen carefully and follow its instructions.
- Keep the boarding pass the kiosk prints: it shows your booking reference, which matters most if the kiosk doesn't give you a seat number.
- If the boarding pass has a seat number, you are accepted for the flight. Go straight to the departures lounge and the gate. If it has no seat number, the kiosk tells you what to do next.
At all other airports, go to the desk signposted for standby travel. If there isn't one, go to the check-in counter of the SAS handling agent.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
You can't request a seat on an ID ticket before check-in.
If on the day of departure there is a need to upgrade you to a cabin above the one you're eligible for, you'll only be considered if you meet the dress code for that cabin.
Special services, children and pets
- Special meals can't be pre-booked for ID passengers. The only exception is a meal needed for health reasons on a confirmed ticket.
- A pet in the cabin (PETC) can be requested on a confirmed R1 ZED ticket on SK. Request it on www.flysas.com; you pay the same rate as paying passengers.
- Animals in the hold (AVIH) can't be requested. SK employees are exempt from this rule.
- Children under 16 can travel on an ID ticket only with an adult on the same type of ID ticket.
Dress code
The dress code applies to both leisure and duty (company business) travel. It doesn't tell you what to wear, only what isn't acceptable. Use common sense and respect the airline you fly with. Where an outfit is questionable, check-in agents and service managers decide.
Not acceptable in any cabin:
- Beach clothing or footwear of any kind.
- Workout, training or sports clothing and footwear, such as jogging suits, track suits, sweat pants, rugby pants and running shoes.
- Tank tops.
- Cut-off clothing, or clothing with ragged edges or holes.
- Shorts, Bermuda shorts, leggings, short skirts and mini skirts.
- Clothing or footwear with offensive graphics or wording.
- Clothing that exposes the midriff, halter bras or bra tops.
- Provocative, revealing or see-through clothing.
- Underwear worn as outerwear.
- Clothing or footwear that isn't clean.
In Business Class, dress smart casual, including your footwear.
SAS ground handling staff must apply the dress code consistently, and you may be refused travel if you don't follow it.

Questions, answered
Do I book SAS staff travel through myIDTravel?
Yes. SAS handles ZED travel through myIDTravel. For information, contact your own airline's Staff Travel Unit; with remaining questions, the SAS ID Helpdesk is at [email protected].
When should I check in for an SAS standby flight?
At a self-service kiosk, at least 60 minutes before departure, or 120 minutes before an intercontinental flight. A boarding pass with a seat number means you're accepted.
What documents do I need for SAS flights to the USA?
Secure Flight information must be added when you list or book. API and ESTA can be added later, but 72 hours before departure is recommended; otherwise the listing or booking will be cancelled.
What can't I wear on SAS as a staff traveler?
No beachwear, sportswear, tank tops, shorts, leggings, short skirts, ripped or revealing clothing, or anything unclean. In Business Class, dress smart casual.
Can I bring a pet on an SAS staff ticket?
A pet in the cabin can be requested on a confirmed R1 ZED ticket on SK via www.flysas.com, at the same rate as paying passengers. Animals in the hold can't be requested.
Which airlines can I fly on ZED fares?
It depends on the ZED and interline agreements of the airline you work for. In Staff Airlines, the partner airlines filter shows only the flights you can board.
Airline rules change often and this summary may be out of date. Always confirm important details with Scandinavian Airlines’s staff travel department or in the booking tool you use before you travel.
