Tropic Air staff travel & standby
To fly standby on Tropic Air you need an electronic myIDTravel (eZED) ticket. Check in no later than 30 minutes before a domestic flight or 60 minutes before an international one, and expect to board after Tropic Air's own staff, first come first served. Staff Airlines shows estimated open seats on Tropic Air flights before you go.
Rules for staff travel

Flights you can't use
- Flights sold under a Tropic Air number but operated by another airline.
There are no permanent embargoes, but Tropic Air may block staff travel on a new route for 30 days after it starts. Checking embargoes before you travel is your job: having a ticket doesn't mean there is no embargo.
Visas and travel documents
You and everyone traveling with you must carry all the documents the trip needs, including passports, visas and health certificates. Without them, Tropic Air can refuse boarding.
When required, Tropic Air collects advance passenger information (APIS) at check-in, so leave enough time for it.
Baggage
Tropic Air's normal baggage allowances apply. Details: tropicair.com
Check-in
You need an electronic myIDTravel (eZED) ticket for space-available travel.
- You can check in up to 4 hours before departure.
- Check in no later than 30 minutes before a domestic flight and 60 minutes before an international one.
- After check-in, stay away from the ticket counter or service desk until you are called by name for your seat.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
Staff of other airlines are boarded first come, first served, after Tropic Air's own employees and their guests on personal travel. If you don't get on, you are moved to the next operating flight and keep your place on the waiting list.
Once you have a boarding pass, board as Tropic Air staff direct you.
Special services, children and pets
- Available: courtesy wheelchairs, carriage of your own wheelchair as checked baggage, and pre-boarding for passengers with disabilities.
- If you travel with a battery-powered wheelchair or other large equipment, contact Tropic Air reservations before your trip.
- Unaccompanied children under 16 aren't accepted.
Pets:
- Pets can't fly on most international flights, but small cats and dogs are carried on flights to and from Cancun.
- On domestic flights within Belize, pets are carried.
- Every animal, including service dogs, travels in a kennel or carrier you supply. Only guide dogs may be on board without one.
- The kennel size decides whether the pet needs its own seat. Details and possible fees: tropicair.com
Dress code
Wear clean, neat clothes. Nothing offensive or distracting to other passengers: overly revealing or vulgar clothing, or anything against community standards of decency, is not allowed.
While traveling:
- Don't cause any inconvenience to paying passengers or distract staff and crew from serving them.
- Follow the instructions and decisions of Tropic Air staff on duty.
- No alcohol is allowed in flight. Anyone intoxicated or unruly is denied boarding.
- If you were treated unfairly, report it through your own staff travel office, not directly to Tropic Air.
Good to know
- myIDTravel (ZED) tickets are for personal leisure travel only. They can't be transferred, sold, bought, donated, traded or exchanged for goods or services.
- You can't use a ZED ticket if you already hold a revenue ticket between the same cities on the same day.
- It's the employee's job to make sure everyone traveling on their staff travel benefits knows these rules.
