IndiGo staff travel & standby

IATA 6EICAO IGOIndia ›

To fly standby on IndiGo you need a listing in myIDTravel, and you pay there before you get to the airport: without a listing you will be refused check-in. All travel is space available only: your seat is never confirmed, web check-in isn't allowed, and priority among staff travelers goes by when you booked. Staff Airlines doesn't show loads for this airline yet, but it shows estimated open seats on other airlines on your route and connections through other hubs.

How to list for standby on IndiGo

Every space available (standby or subload) trip needs a flight listing. Passengers without one are refused at check-in.

  • For tickets issued through myIDTravel (NIET), listings and changes can be made only in myIDTravel.
  • If you don't know how to log in to myIDTravel, ask your airline's travel office for your user ID and password.
  • Pay for your booking in the myIDTravel app before you arrive at the airport.
  • You can book in advance, but the booking never confirms a seat. Whether you board is decided at the airport at departure time, depending on free seats.

After paying:

  1. Wait up to 20 minutes for an email or SMS confirming your booking or telling you it is on hold.
  2. If nothing comes after 20 minutes, make another payment on your existing PNR or on the PNR you were given for the booking on hold.
  3. If money was taken but the booking wasn't confirmed, it will be returned within 7–10 working days.

Flights you can't use

Your ticket is valid only on flights operated by IndiGo. Flights sold under IndiGo but operated by other airlines can't be used.

Visas and travel documents

You and your eligible travelers must carry every document the destination country requires, passport, visas and health certificate, and the same for each point on the way, in case you are offloaded there for commercial or other reasons. IndiGo can refuse boarding to anyone without the right documents for a point on the route.

Before you book and again before you fly, check the latest government travel requirements. They may include health declarations, proof of vaccination, entry permits or pre-approval, and without them you could be refused entry.

Baggage

Tickets issued through myIDTravel get IndiGo's normal baggage allowance.

Domestic flights:

  • Checked baggage: 20 kg per person, 1 piece only.
  • Hand baggage: one bag of up to 7 kg and 115 cm (length + width + height). For contactless travel, IndiGo recommends keeping it under the seat in front of you.

International flights:

  • Checked baggage: 20 kg, 25 kg or 30 kg per person depending on the route, 2 pieces only.
  • Hand baggage: one bag of up to 7 kg and 115 cm (length + width + height), best kept under the seat in front of you.

Extra pieces and excess baggage are paid at the airport at the applicable rates.

Check-in

Don't check in online. Going to the airport check-in counter is mandatory for everyone travelling under this agreement: standby passengers report there with their listing. At the airport you are accepted according to the operating carrier's procedures.

  • Be at the airport check-in counter at least 240 minutes before an international departure and at least 180 minutes before a domestic one.
  • Because of extra security checks, check-in closes for you 60 minutes before domestic flights and 90 minutes before international ones.
  • Always be at the gate on time.
  • Through check-in isn't available on standby (space available, subload, ID) tickets. Leave enough time at each stop to land and check in again.

Boarding, seats and upgrades

Seniority doesn't count on IndiGo. Staff travelers are accepted in the order of the date and time they booked: the earliest booking goes first. As is usual in the industry, IndiGo's paying passengers come before ZED passengers, and IndiGo employees and their eligible travelers come before staff of other airlines on ZED tickets. All travel depends on priority and free seats.

  • If you don't get on, check-in agents will move you only to the next IndiGo flight, and only if you are listed on it.
  • On a flight with several sectors, being accepted at the origin doesn't put you ahead of ZED passengers boarding at the next stop. Priority is set separately for each sector.
  • When a flight has a load restriction, paying passengers, their bags and paying cargo come first. You may be refused even if there are empty seats.
  • If you aren't accommodated, you aren't entitled to Denied Boarding Compensation (DBC) and must refuse it.
  • Seat requests aren't allowed on staff travel. On a very empty flight, check-in staff may offer you an aisle or a window seat if available. A seat given at check-in can still be changed for commercial reasons.
  • Don't ask IndiGo staff for an upgrade.

Special services, children and pets

  • No special service requests are possible on standby tickets. Special meals can't be pre-booked, and seats can't be reserved in advance.
  • Don't ask ground or cabin staff for extras such as special meals, free alcoholic drinks, headsets, playing cards, wings or service kit items. The only exception is medical help needed during the flight.
  • Infants can only be added as a special service request. Airport check-in staff do this under IndiGo's policy and charge the applicable rates.
  • Infant safety seats can't be used on board.
  • Unaccompanied minors under 16 aren't accepted.
  • IndiGo doesn't carry pets in the cabin or live animals in the hold.

Dress code

Dress to a high standard and be well groomed: neat, clean and well dressed. If you don't meet the minimum standard below at any point of your journey, you may be refused boarding; local airport management makes the final call. Once you are accommodated on a flight, don't change into clothes that don't meet the dress code.

Not allowed for anyone:

  • Clothes with offensive words, signs, images or graphics.
  • Clothes with holes or ragged or cut-off edges, such as torn denim.
  • Trousers or shorts worn low on the hips so that underwear shows.
  • See-through clothes.
  • Beachwear or beach footwear, flip-flops and bathroom slippers.

Also not allowed for men:

  • Shorts, unless they are cargo or knee-length shorts.
  • Sleeveless vests or T-shirts.

Also not allowed for women:

  • Shorts other than cargo or knee-length shorts, hot pants and micro-miniskirts.
  • Strapless tops and dresses, singlets and crop tops.

How to behave:

  • Don't cause any inconvenience to IndiGo's paying passengers or distract ground staff and cabin crew from serving them.
  • Don't discuss the price, cost or conditions of your discounted ticket with paying passengers.
  • Follow the instructions and decisions of IndiGo staff on duty. If you feel you were treated unfairly, report it through your own staff travel office, not directly to IndiGo.
  • After checking in, stay away from the check-in counter or service center until your name is called for a seat.
  • Once you have a boarding pass, board when told and take your assigned seat. Don't ask other passengers to swap seats. If you are asked to change seats or cabin, or to leave the aircraft, do it quickly and quietly.

Changes and refunds

  • Don't change your booking on the IndiGo website. All changes, including cancellations, must be made on the myIDTravel website.
  • If you add special services on the IndiGo website or app and then don't fly, that money isn't refunded.
  • For any refund questions, contact your staff travel department.
  • IndiGo expects interline employees and their eligible travelers to carry back-up tickets issued by their own airline.

Good to know

  • ZED tickets are for personal leisure trips only, never for business travel.
  • ZED tickets can't be transferred, sold, bought, donated, traded or exchanged for goods or services.
  • ZED travelers aren't accepted in the flight deck or on the jumpseat of IndiGo aircraft.
  • Comprehensive travel insurance is recommended for your own benefit: IndiGo won't compensate you for injury, illness, or lost money, documents or other belongings during your trip.

Questions, answered

Do I need to list in myIDTravel for an IndiGo standby flight?

Yes. All space available travel needs a listing, and passengers without one are refused at check-in. Listings for myIDTravel tickets are made only in myIDTravel.

Can I check in online for an IndiGo staff flight?

No. Web check-in isn't allowed: you must go to the airport check-in counter, at least 240 minutes before international and 180 minutes before domestic departures.

How much baggage can I take on IndiGo?

IndiGo's normal allowance: on domestic flights 20 kg in one checked piece plus one 7 kg hand bag; on international flights 20, 25 or 30 kg depending on the route, plus one 7 kg hand bag.

How is standby priority decided on IndiGo?

By the date and time of your booking: seniority doesn't count. Paying passengers come first, and IndiGo staff come before other airlines' ZED travelers.

What can't I wear on IndiGo?

Clothes with offensive prints, torn or cut-off clothes, see-through clothes, beachwear, flip-flops and bathroom slippers. Shorts are allowed only if they are cargo or knee-length.

Which airlines can I fly on ZED fares?

It depends on the ZED and interline agreements of the airline you work for. In Staff Airlines, the partner airlines filter shows only the flights you can board.

Airline rules change often and this summary may be out of date. Always confirm important details with IndiGo’s staff travel department or in the booking tool you use before you travel. Staff Airlines is not responsible for denied boarding, missed flights or other losses. Found a mistake? Let us know.
