How to list for standby on Air India
Listing is mandatory. For tickets issued through myIDTravel (NiET), listings and changes are made in the myIDTravel system.
Flights you can't use
- codeshare flights not operated by AI, numbered AI 6000–9999 (the range may change)
- any flight not operated by AI
Visas and travel documents
Carry a valid passport and the right visa for your destination and for any points along the way, in case you are offloaded. Without a valid passport or visa, you may be denied boarding.
Baggage
- Checked: for ZED tickets issued through myIDTravel, your allowance is the one shown on the ticket.
- Cabin: see www.airindia.com.
Check-in
- Confirmed bookings: see www.airindia.com.
- Standby bookings: go to the Staff Travel counter at the airport with a valid listing.
Check-in times are on www.airindia.com. Through check-in isn't available to standby passengers.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
As is usual in the industry, ZED passengers have a lower boarding priority than revenue passengers. Staff of AI and its group carriers rank above staff of other airlines on ZED tickets.
- Seat requests aren't allowed on staff travel. If the flight is wide open, check-in staff may offer you an aisle or window seat, subject to availability.
- A seat assigned at check-in can still be changed for commercial reasons, and you are expected to cooperate.
- Don't ask Air India check-in staff or cabin crew for an upgrade.
Special services, children and pets
- Special meals can't be pre-booked on rebate or standby tickets.
- No other special service requests are allowed on standby or space-available tickets.
- Unaccompanied minors aren't permitted.
Dress code
Staff and their family members must wear smart casual clothes that are neat, undamaged and well kept. Acceptable:
- smart jeans or denim and chinos that are neat, plain and well fitted
- polo shirts, plain T-shirts with or without a collar, collared shirts, blouses
- smart dresses or skirts of knee length or longer
- sneakers, boots, smart casual women's sandals (flat or heeled)
- full professional national dress with suitable sandals
The dress code is mandatory, and Air India can refuse ZED travel to anyone who isn't dressed appropriately.
Changes and refunds
- Unused and partly used tickets can be refunded automatically in myIDTravel.
- If you hold a Subload or Firm Business ticket and aren't accepted in Business, you may request a refund of the difference between the cabin booked and the cabin flown, if applicable. Request it within 1 month of your last flown flight: later requests can't be processed.
- For a downgrade refund, email [email protected] with the subject line "Claiming Downgrade Refunds".
- If a full or partial refund in myIDTravel doesn't work, email [email protected] with a screenshot of the problem.
- If you hold a Firm ticket and decide not to fly, cancel the booking as early as you can.
Good to know
Carrying anyone in the flight deck is prohibited, so don't ask for it.
