How to list for standby on China Airlines
List your flight with CI worldwide reservations six hours before departure, in RBD X. Contact details for the reservation offices are on www.china-airlines.com.
Entry restrictions differ from airport to airport, so check your flight information in advance to avoid problems on the way.
Flights you can't use
- Codeshare flights not operated by China Airlines.
- Domestic sectors within a country.
- Charter flights.
- New routes for the first three months after the inaugural flight: ID passengers aren't accepted for boarding during that time.
China Airlines ended its ZED embargo on 10 December 2022.
Visas and travel documents
You need a valid ticket and the right travel documents, including visas or entry permits where required, for every country you travel to or through, unless that country's authorities have granted an exemption.
- Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
- Visas and entry permits must be valid for your stay or longer, depending on the country's rules.
- If you don't meet these requirements, you may have problems at check-in and be refused entry.
Baggage
For ZED tickets issued from about 00:00 GMT on 10 December 2022, the free allowance is:
- Long haul: 2 pieces, 23 kg each.
- Short haul (within Asia, and between Australia and New Zealand): 1 piece, 23 kg.

Since 1 July 2023, China Airlines and Mandarin Airlines stop accepting employee and ZED discounted tickets 20 minutes before the check-in counter closes, at every airport. More information: https://is.gd/Rv1A58

Boarding, seats and upgrades
Since 16 January 2025, there are no upgrades when the economy (Y) cabin is full.
Special services, children and pets
- Special meals aren't available to any standby passenger. If you have particular needs or preferences, bring your own food on board.
- ID passengers under 16 must travel with an adult holding the same type of ticket.
Dress code
Dress in line with public standards of good taste, which normally means office wear or smart casual. Jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, gym shoes and similar very casual clothes aren't acceptable. Airport Services staff enforce the dress code and have the final say; if your clothes are considered improper, you won't be accepted for boarding.
Changes and refunds
China Airlines doesn't issue rebate tickets to staff of interline carriers.
Good to know
China Airlines recommends that all ID passengers take out comprehensive insurance.
