Norwegian staff travel & standby
All standby listings on Norwegian are made in myIDTravel, and Norwegian's contact centre and airport staff can't create one for you. Only scheduled Norwegian flights are available, and you may not be cleared until 5–10 minutes before departure. Staff Airlines shows estimated open seats on Norwegian flights before you go.
Rules for staff travel

How to list for standby on Norwegian
- Make your listing in myIDTravel. Only you and the eligible dependents and travel companions shown in myIDTravel (if your airline's agreement includes them) can fly standby on Norwegian.
- Pay with Visa, Mastercard or American Express.
- You get a six-character record locator. Keep it with you when you travel.
If you can't get into myIDTravel, ask your own airline's staff travel office for help. Norwegian's contact centre and airport staff can't create a new listing for you.
Flights you can't use
- Only scheduled Norwegian flights are open to standby travel. Charter, ferry and other non-scheduled flights aren't.
- You can't fly standby on a route and date where you have ever held a confirmed seat on Norwegian, no matter how early you cancelled that reservation.
- From time to time Norwegian embargoes a flight or route for a set period for operational reasons. Embargoes are shown on the ID Agreements page in myIDTravel. Don't contact Norwegian asking to be listed on an embargoed flight.
Baggage
Everything you pack must meet the content guidelines, and all bags are screened before they go on the aircraft.
In the cabin, each standby passenger can bring:
- 1 personal item for under the seat, such as a purse, briefcase, small backpack or laptop bag, up to 30 × 20 × 38 cm
- 1 carry-on bag for the overhead bin, up to 55 × 40 × 23 cm including wheels and handles
If the overhead bins are full, your cabin bag may be checked at the gate for free, and it won't count toward your checked allowance. A cabin bag bigger than the limits above will be checked at the gate and will count toward your checked allowance. Lap infants don't get their own cabin allowance.
In the hold, each standby passenger can check 1 item up to 250 × 79 × 112 cm, with a maximum circumference of 300 cm, and 23 kg.
- Overweight, oversize or extra bags are charged the standard fees and travel only if there is payload left after all paying passengers' bags.
- On a connecting trip your bags go through to your final destination only if you are listed on a single PNR. With two separate PNRs, you collect and check in your bags again at each connection. Always check that the destination on your bag tag is right.
- If a bag is lost or damaged, tell Norwegian's airport staff and they will open a claim. A found bag can be picked up at any Norwegian station; it won't be shipped to you. Compensation follows the same rules as for paying passengers.
Check-in
You can check in on the web or in the app: open the Check In page on norwegian.com or in the Norwegian app and find your reservation with your last name and confirmation number. You must check in before departure to get a boarding pass and pass through security.
- On a connecting itinerary, each segment is checked in separately, and only within 48 hours of that segment's departure.
- Bag drop deadlines are the same as for paying passengers.
- If loads allow, you may sometimes be cleared well before departure. If the flight is full, you may have to wait until check-in closes before you are cleared.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
Standby passengers are boarded only if there is space and only within any payload limits needed to operate the flight safely. Priority goes in this order:
- Norwegian staff
- Widerøe staff
- Other airline staff (ZED)
Within each group, the employee's date of hire decides.
Because clearing depends on no-shows, you may not be cleared until 5–10 minutes before departure. Be ready to board as soon as your name is called and you are handed a boarding pass: if you don't collect it promptly, the next person on the list gets the seat. If you don't get on your flight, cancel and list again in myIDTravel.
Standby passengers get no compensation for delays, cancellations or denied boarding. If you are offered any, you must turn it down.
Special services, children and pets
- No special services, paid or free, are available on an ID standby ticket.
- Lap infants can be listed in myIDTravel. A seat for an infant (INS) isn't offered at the moment.
- Norwegian doesn't carry passengers under 12 without an accompanying adult.
Dress code
Be polite and courteous to other passengers and crew at all times, and dress presentably and appropriately. If you don't, you can be refused boarding or offloaded. Loud, disrespectful, drunk or threatening behaviour can also get you removed from the ID standby programme.
As the employee, you are responsible for how your dependents and travel companions behave. Make sure dependents travelling without you know Norwegian's rules. Violations are reported to your employing airline, and Norwegian can ban future travel on its flights.
Changes and refunds
Switching to another flight on the same route: relist yourself in myIDTravel at any time, unless you have already checked bags at the airport. Changing the routing needs a new listing, even if you are already at the airport. If you worry about reaching myIDTravel on the road, you can list for more than one route before you set off. There's no need to list for several flights on the same route, or to check in for several routes.
Refunds:
- Cancel in myIDTravel within 90 days of purchase for a full or partial refund; this is usually processed automatically.
- If your listed flight is cancelled, refund or relist in myIDTravel as soon as you can.
- If you get an error, email the address on the ID Agreements page. Include your record locator, traveller names, travel dates and routes.
- Refunds go back to the original credit card, usually within 3–5 business days, occasionally up to two weeks.

How much cabin baggage can I take on Norwegian?
One personal item up to 30 × 20 × 38 cm and one carry-on up to 55 × 40 × 23 cm, including wheels and handles.
Can I check my bags through to a connecting flight?
Only if all your flights are on a single PNR. On two separate PNRs you collect and recheck your bags at each connection.

Which airlines can I fly on ZED fares?
It depends on the ZED and interline agreements of the airline you work for. In Staff Airlines, the partner airlines filter shows only the flights you can board.
Airline rules change often and this summary may be out of date. Always confirm important details with Norwegian’s staff travel department or in the booking tool you use before you travel.
