Virgin Atlantic staff travel & standby
Every standby trip on Virgin Atlantic needs a listing. It is made automatically if you bought your ticket in myIDTravel on 932 stock; otherwise you list with Virgin Atlantic by email or phone. Check embargoes yourself before you travel: a ticket or listing doesn't guarantee there isn't one. Staff Airlines shows estimated open seats on Virgin Atlantic flights before you go.

How to list for standby on Virgin Atlantic
Listing is required for all standby travel on Virgin Atlantic.
- Ticket bought in myIDTravel with a number starting 932 (Virgin Atlantic ticket stock): the listing is made automatically when the ticket is issued. Nothing else to do.
- Ticket number starting with anything else (for example, your own airline's ticket stock): list with Virgin Atlantic by email or phone.
By email: write to [email protected] with the subject "XX listing request for DD/MMM/YY", where XX is your airline code or name. Include:
- the names of all passengers as on the ticket
- every passenger's date of birth
- route, flight number and date
- a contact phone number for the passenger
By phone: +44 (0) 344 742 4390. Lines are open 10:00-13:00 UK time on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 10:00-12:00 on Wednesdays. Closed at weekends and on UK bank holidays.
You'll need the 13-digit ticket number of every passenger when you list. Each sector needs its own flight coupon: if a Heathrow (LHR) – Grenada (GND) flight goes via Barbados (BGI), the ticket must be issued as LHR - BGI - GND.
Flights you can't use
All codeshare flights are excluded.
Embargoes can be added at any time, and it's up to you to check them before you travel. Having a ticket or a listing doesn't mean there's no embargo. For more embargo information, see myIDTravel.
- On tickets bought in myIDTravel with a number starting 932, flights to and from St Vincent, Grenada, Antigua (only when routed via Barbados) and Montego Bay (only when routed via Nassau) are embargoed until further notice.
- Flights between Caribbean islands are also embargoed, with no end date set.
Baggage
The Virgin Atlantic Economy Classic baggage allowance applies.
Check-in
Use online check-in where you can, and drop bags only at the Economy Bag Drop. Don't go to the Premium or Upper Class check-in.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
You'll either get a seat at check-in or a 'seat at gate' boarding pass.
If you end up sitting up front:
- Turn down the sleep suit if you're offered one in Upper Class.
- You can have a drink at The Bar, Loft or Booth, but don't stay there long.
- Companions seated in a different cabin can't join you.
Dress code
Staff, family and companions must always look smart, clean and tidy on Virgin Atlantic.
- Clothes and shoes must be clean, not torn or ripped.
- No beach or swimwear: swimsuits, bikinis, Speedos, swimming shorts or trunks, sarongs or kaftans. Long shorts and t-shirts are allowed, so pack your swimwear in your case.
- Out of respect for local cultures, nothing revealing or provocative: no low-cut tops, bare midriffs, see-through clothing, very short shorts, skirts or dresses (anything above mid-thigh), or visible underwear.
- Branded slogans are fine, offensive ones aren't. If you're not sure whether something could offend, don't wear it.
Virgin Atlantic can refuse boarding if you don't follow the dress code, and the airport staff's decision is final.
