Etihad Airways staff travel & standby
Bookings made in myIDTravel don't need a separate listing on Etihad, but you must check in online in the Etihad app or on etihad.com before you get to the airport: there is no staff travel counter. Some flights carry no standby passengers because of payload limits, even when seats are free, and Etihad expects you to carry a back-up ticket. Staff Airlines shows estimated open seats on Etihad Airways flights before you go.

How to list for standby on Etihad Airways
If you booked in myIDTravel, you don't need to list. If you do need to be listed on a flight, use www.myidtravel.com/myidlisting.
- Subload Business bookings are ticketed in Economy with a Business cabin upgrade code. Whether you get the upgrade depends on availability at check-in.
- Add every booked, Subload or listed PNR to "Trips" in the Etihad app (download it from the App Store). From there you can check in online and see the priority list.
Flights you can't use
- EY flight series 999–1999 and 3000–8000 are excluded.
- No flights are embargoed, but some have payload or weight restrictions. On those flights standby passengers can't be accepted, even if there are empty seats.
- Flights from AUH to BOS, IAD, JFK, ORD and YYZ may have heavy payload restrictions in summer and winter, which makes getting on very difficult. Flights to SYD and MEL may be affected in the same way.
Visas and travel documents
API data is added to your PNR in advance, so it doesn't have to be collected at check-in at the last minute.
Make sure you and your family have a valid passport and the right visas for your destination and for every scheduled point on your route, in case you are offloaded along the way. Without a valid passport or visa you may be denied boarding.
Baggage
- Checked baggage: the allowance printed on your ticket applies.
- Each checked item can weigh up to 32 kg.
- If your airline gives Etihad employees a smaller allowance, Etihad may give you the same smaller allowance in return.
- Cabin baggage: follow the rules on etihad.com for the class you are eligible to travel in.
Check-in
There is no staff travel counter, so check in online in the Etihad app or on etihad.com before you arrive at the airport.
Subload (standby) tickets:
- Check in online. Only if that fails, go to an Economy check-in counter to have your documents checked and be added to the waitlist.
- To see current cabin loads and your standby priority, open "Manage" and tap "Flight Capacity & Priority".
- Wait for a notification in the Etihad app or by email telling you that you've been accepted from the waitlist. Turn on notifications in the app and keep an eye on them around flight closure time.
- Once you have a seat, go to the self-service bag drop in Row D to drop your bags and print your boarding pass.
If your booking has an upgrade code because a higher cabin was purchased, you may first get an Economy seat to take to the gate and then be moved or upgraded when the flight closes, depending on availability.
Firm tickets:
- Checking in online in the Etihad app or on etihad.com before the airport is mandatory.
- Then go straight to the Self-Service Baggage Drop in Row D to drop your bag and, if you need one, print a boarding pass.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
- Etihad staff board ahead of other airlines' staff on ZED tickets.
- Other airlines' staff are accepted in order of their date of joining (seniority) with the airline that issued their ticket.
- Download the Etihad app to use the digital staff acceptance process.
Upgrades:
- On an upgradable staff ticket, you're told in the app or by email whether you've been upgraded once the flight closes. If you have, download your new boarding pass in the Etihad app.
- The class on your ticket is the highest you can be accepted in. Guest Services staff and cabin crew aren't allowed to seat you in a higher class.
- A seat in a premium cabin doesn't come with lounge access, so don't ask lounge staff to let you in.
- Seat requests aren't available to staff guests.
Special services, children and pets
- A wheelchair can be arranged, but no other special requests are accepted.
- Special meals aren't available to standby staff.
- Infant safety seats aren't available to interline staff guests.
- Unaccompanied minors aren't allowed.
Dress code
You and your family should be dressed and groomed to suit the cabin you're in, in line with the Etihad image and the conservative public standard in the UAE.
Allowed:
- Smart casual or UAE national dress.
- Smart jeans, trainers and t-shirts.
Not allowed:
- Worn-out, dirty, torn or ripped clothes.
- Beachwear, including shorts, flip-flops and rubber shoes.
- Sleeveless tops.
- Jogging suits and tracksuits.
- Leggings.
- Anything see-through, too revealing, tight or offensive.
Shoulders must be covered, and skirts must reach the knee or below.
Changes and refunds
Etihad expects every interline employee to carry a back-up ticket.

Questions, answered
Do I need to list for an Etihad standby flight if I booked in myIDTravel?
No. If you do need to be listed on a flight, use www.myidtravel.com/myidlisting.
Where do I check in for Etihad on a staff ticket?
Online, in the Etihad app or on etihad.com, before you reach the airport: there is no staff travel counter. On a standby ticket, go to an Economy check-in counter only if online check-in fails.
What can I wear on Etihad?
Smart casual or UAE national dress; smart jeans, trainers and t-shirts are fine. Shorts, flip-flops, sleeveless tops, tracksuits and leggings are not, shoulders must be covered and skirts must reach the knee.
Does an upgrade on Etihad include lounge access?
No. Being accepted in a premium cabin doesn't give you lounge access.
How much checked baggage can I take on Etihad?
The allowance printed on your ticket, with a maximum of 32 kg per item.
Which airlines can I fly on ZED fares?
It depends on the ZED and interline agreements of the airline you work for. In Staff Airlines, the partner airlines filter shows only the flights you can board.
Airline rules change often and this summary may be out of date. Always confirm important details with Etihad Airways’s staff travel department or in the booking tool you use before you travel.
