All Tradewind Aviation listings are made in myIDTravel: select "Tradewind Aviation" in the first drop-down, not "All Airlines". Non-revs are cleared by check-in time and body weight, sometimes only 10 minutes before departure, and flights to or from Teterboro aren't open to standby travellers. How to list for standby on Tradewind Aviation

All listings are made in myIDTravel, where you can create, change or cancel them.

  1. In the first drop-down, select "Tradewind Aviation". With "All Airlines" you may see old or sold-out flights, wrong loads or an error message.
  2. Click "Show Details" to see how many seats are left: the number next to "Y" is the count of unsold seats (for example, Z2 X2 E2 Y2 R0 B0).
  3. Book your listing.

Confirmed travel, where offered, can be booked up to 60 days before departure.

Flights you can't use

Flights to and from Teterboro (TEB) aren't available to standby travellers. By-the-seat operations and sales are prohibited at Teterboro, so Tradewind can't carry non-revs there: not even its own staff.

Baggage

  • The first two bags are free if you work for a company with a bilateral travel agreement with Tradewind.
  • All bags travel on a space-available basis. Flights to and from St. Barths may be weight-restricted.
  • No bag may weigh more than 23 kg.

Check-in

Check in at least 60 minutes before departure at every airport, and 75 minutes before international flights. On international flights, having the right documents to enter and leave each country is your responsibility.

Flights from Fort Lauderdale, Stuart and Westchester/White Plains leave from a private terminal (FBO). See "Know Before You Go" on the Tradewind website.

Boarding, seats and upgrades

Non-revs are cleared by check-in time, and body weight may also be taken into account. A flight may not be cleared until 10 minutes before departure, so allow plenty of flexibility. Clearing order:

  1. Tradewind staff and eligibles.
  2. Other airlines' staff and eligibles with a commercial ticketing agreement.
  3. Other airlines' staff and eligibles with an employee travel agreement.
  4. Other airlines' staff and eligibles without an official agreement.
  5. Jumpseaters.

Seats are assigned by body weight for the aircraft's weight and balance.

Dress code

Tradewind takes part in the Dress to Impress non-rev initiative. Wear business casual: not your Sunday best, but try to blend in. Clothes should be free of odours and tears.

  • Not allowed: flip-flops, board shorts with a T-shirt, swimwear, yoga-type pants and outfits, and spaghetti-strap tops for women.
  • T-shirts are fine only under a vest, cardigan or fleece.
  • Men: cargo shorts with a collared shirt are acceptable on the Caribbean network; on the Northeast routes, wear slacks, cargo pants or khakis.

Take off airline lanyards so you don't draw attention. The planes are fairly small and conversations carry, and passengers are curious about the airline's business and can easily overhear you.

In the San Juan lounge and at private terminals (FBOs), remove anything that identifies you as an airline employee, be discreet, and respect the privacy of other customers, including celebrities, politicians and sports figures. Airline attire isn't allowed in the San Juan lounge, but you can use its drinks, snacks and other amenities while you wait. Avoid discussing non-rev travel with other customers.

Changes and refunds

  • Same-day flight changes are handled by Tradewind's counter staff.
  • To get a refund, cancel your listing in myIDTravel. Refunds go back to the original form of payment and can take up to two weeks; if you don't see yours by then, email [email protected].
  • Confirmed travel must be cancelled within 24 hours of travel; otherwise the fare is non-refundable.

Good to know

Jumpseat: most flights have a two-person crew. On a single-pilot flight with 9 passengers on board, a non-Tradewind crew member can't ride in the first officer (FO) seat. Jumpseaters are welcome to non-rev whenever a cabin seat is free. Remove airline identification where you can, unless you are in uniform.

Routes:

  • Northeast US: White Plains/Westchester to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, plus summer flights to Newport when they are bookable in myIDTravel.
  • Southeast US: Stuart, FL to Marsh Harbour, Nassau and North Eleuthera; Fort Lauderdale (FLL – Sheltair) to Marsh Harbour, North Eleuthera and Nassau.
  • Caribbean: San Juan, PR to Anguilla, St. Barths, Tortola and Virgin Gorda; St. Barths to Anguilla, Antigua, St. Thomas and San Juan.

Questions, answered

How do I list for a Tradewind Aviation flight in myIDTravel?

Select "Tradewind Aviation" in the first drop-down in myIDTravel rather than "All Airlines", which can show wrong flights or loads.

When will I know if I'm cleared on Tradewind?

Non-revs are cleared by check-in time, and body weight may count too. A flight may not be cleared until 10 minutes before departure.

How much baggage can I take on Tradewind?

Staff of companies with a bilateral agreement get the first two bags free. Bags travel space-available and can't exceed 23 kg.

Can I fly standby to or from Teterboro on Tradewind?

No. By-the-seat sales are prohibited at Teterboro, so no non-revs are carried on those flights.

How do I get a refund from Tradewind?

Cancel your listing in myIDTravel. The refund can take up to two weeks; if it doesn't arrive, email [email protected].

Which airlines can I fly on ZED fares?

It depends on the ZED and interline agreements of the airline you work for. In Staff Airlines, the partner airlines filter shows only the flights you can board.

Airline rules change often and this summary may be out of date. Always confirm important details with Tradewind Aviation’s staff travel department or in the booking tool you use before you travel. Staff Airlines is not responsible for denied boarding, missed flights or other losses. Found a mistake? Let us know.
