WestJet standby & non-rev travel
On WestJet, everything, ticketing, listing, changes and cancellations, is done in myIDTravel. Code-share and charter flights can't be used, and when several interline staff are on the same flight, the one who checked in first for the origin flight boards first. Staff Airlines shows estimated open seats on WestJet flights before you go.

How to list for standby on WestJet
Ticket, list, change and cancel your WestJet travel in myIDTravel.
- Book one-way trips where you can: they are easier to manage yourself in myIDTravel if you need to change, cancel or refund.
- To see how full a flight is, open the WestJet flight in myIDTravel and tap the "i" information icon. Up to 9 seats are shown in bold for each class or cabin.
- Don't call the WestJet Contact Centre to ask about flight loads.
Flights you can't use
- All code-share flights.
- All charter flights.
- Flight numbers WS5000–WS9999.
Baggage
- You can check 1 bag free, as long as it is within the size and weight limits.
- Extra weight, size or pieces cost a fee, and those bags go only if there is space and weight available.
- Your checked bag is loaded once you have been given a seat on the flight.
- Lap infant: 2 pieces of infant equipment (for example an infant restraint system, playpen or stroller) travel free.
- Child or infant with a paid ticket: 1 piece of child equipment (for example an approved restraint system, playpen or stroller) travels free on top of the checked bag allowance.

Check-in
Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure in the WestJet app or on the website. If it isn't available, check in at the airport. Airport check-in times are on the check-in page of the WestJet website.
The WestJet app (iOS and Android) lets you add your booking to Trips and sends push notifications about flight disruptions. Email and text updates aren't available for standby travel at the moment.
Departing from NRT or ICN:
- You can check in online to get a timestamp, but only an airport agent can give you a boarding pass.
- Be at the check-in counter at least 60 minutes before departure; 75 minutes is recommended.
- If there are seats, you get one assigned, receive a paper boarding pass and can go to the gate.
Arriving at NRT or ICN from another terminal to connect: leave the secure area, go landside to the WestJet check-in counters and get your boarding pass for the next flight there.
Boarding, seats and upgrades
When two or more interline employees are on the same flight, boarding priority goes by the time each checked in for the origin flight.
Special services, children and pets
- Special requests, including wheelchair assistance: after booking in myIDTravel.com, call the WestJet contact centre at 1-877-435-9952 to add them to your listing. Otherwise, tell the airport agents when you check in.
- To use an infant seat, you have to buy a child ticket, because the infant will need a seat of its own.
- WestJet doesn't accept unaccompanied minors on standby. Dependent children under 16 can travel only with an adult.
Dress code
Business casual. Jeans are fine if they are in good condition.
Changes and refunds
- Tickets can be refunded for up to one year after they were issued.
- Changes, cancellations and refunds are handled in myIDTravel.
- A refund for a partly used ticket can take up to 30 days from your request. You may need to give the original credit card number to the WestJet myIDTravel team in Canada by phone during office hours.

Can I fly on a WestJet buddy pass?
Only if a WestJet employee gives you one. Buddy passes are issued by the airline to its own staff for friends and family, and WestJet's employee rules decide who can use them and what they cost. Buddy pass travelers fly standby and usually board after employees.

How many bags can I check on WestJet?
